To celebrate its release, here is one of my favourite excerpts from Chopin's 4th Ballade, filmed on January 2025 at the Menuhin Hall during the recording of the album.
Described by Alfred Cortot as "the most beautiful of the four, and rejoices in the greatest wealth of musical substance," Chopin’s monumental 'Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 52' was dedicated by the composer to his pupil and patron, Baroness Charlotte de Rothschild (1825–1899).
Standing at the heart of an extraordinary artistic dialogue, this masterpiece was also the first piece I analysed and recorded for my doctroal research at the Royal Academy of Music in London, exploring the poetic interpretative tradition of my late teacher, renowned Israeli pianist Pnina Salzman, and her own legendary mentor, Alfred Cortot.
